I'll start off by saying that I've been a customer of Dyer's for about 7 years. I'd occassionally go with friends for a quick bite, although I was never truly a big fan, and for a few reasons.
First off, if you're expecting that welcoming, walk-in food armoa that is unique to each small deli/resturaunt, you'll only find disappointment. A majority of my visits have an unpleasent, suffocating aroma when eat our meals in. It reminds me of a mild smelling gas station restroom.
Secondly, many will say the wings are tasty, and I completely agree. The wings do have a slightly above average taste, but that's as far as it goes. The wings are mainly bone, skin, and greese with very little meat on them. And at about $8 for 10 wings (80 cent a wing), the price is a disappointment for its quality.
On a recent visit, my group sat down at a table and decided to buy a 2 liter of Coke from the refrigerator at Dyers to share. At about $2.50-$3 for a 2 liter, you'd think the small business would be thrilled that anyone would buy such an overpriced beverage. But, to my shock, the waiter told us that she'd just been told that we could not buy a 2 liter, that it was only for take out (on previous visits this was never an issue). So, we were either forced to buy 16/20oz sodas or cups of sodas at about $1.50-$2 a piece. To worsen the experience, one of our group members order a chicken cheesesteak, which is far from what he got. The cheesesteak turned out to be more of a soup than sandwich which required a fork and spoon to eat. This was personally my tipping point, and I certainly won't be visiting Dyers again anytime soon.
To be fair, Dyers staff seems to be nice enough and social to people that they know and I have had a couple pleasent experiences. The waiters are courteous and will often check up on you. However, service alone doesn't make a successful deli.
My recommendation -- if you have a Wings To Go or Buffalo Wild Wings, I would highly recommend having wings from there. The quality is much better at Buffalo Wild Wings for about the same price, or you could have about 2-3x more wings from Wings To Go at the price Dyers charges. As for sandwichs... Pizza Villa, PJs, or Parkesburgs Pizza & Beer have superior sandwiches to Dyers at a similar price.
