My husband & I were in from out of town to run the Grand Rapids marathon. We thought we'd try out Wonder Massage after the race. The therapists were nice and I think they tried their best, but their overall knowledge of massage and professionalism was severely lacking. We are both nationally certified therapists and work as therapists in Arizona. But this really should not matter as anyone would have been able to pick up on this. From the start we had some issues. We were never introduced or asked what type of massage we wanted. The tables were in really poor condition, my table in particular had a deep indentation that the wood could be felt through. The therapists had limited knowledge of anatomy, when I asked her to work my IT band she asked "where is the IT band?" My therapist left the room repeatedly without letting me know. Again, both therapists were very nice, but clearly were lacking professional massage instruction. I asked for a bolster for under my knees and she didn't know what that was. I told her she could use a pillow if they didn't have any bolsters. Perhaps this is our fault for forgetting to ask if the therapists were certified or licensed in any manner. I know Michigan is working towards some state standards but obviously they are not there yet. If they charged accordingly, as therapists in training, then it may have been acceptable. But $60 for an hour massage by someone who is unqualified in unacceptable. more
