I have dealt with chronic and severe acid reflux for almost 10 years. I talked with my doctor repeatedly about the problem and was told that my body produces too much acid and thus he put me on the little purple pill. I have been on this pill for about 8 years and while it controls the acid reflux symptoms it has never cured me. My ""real"" doctor never seemed concerned with the fact that I had to take a pill every day seemingly for the rest of my life. I'm not a fan of pills and it never made sense to me to simply address the symptoms and never get at the root cause of the problem. After seeing a Groupon for Tigerlily and thought I should give it a shot. I was very happy with my first visit. Doug asked me questions about every aspect of my health and also took the time to fully explain the most likely cause of my acid reflux. Unlike what my ""real"" doctor said, Doug told me that my acid reflux is actually a cause of my body not producing enough acid to properly digest the food in my stomach. Since the food does not digest properly it does not enter the intestine and instead sits in the stomach, putrefies, and thus releases more acid and causes my body to produce more acid as well to try and digest the food. This explanation actually made sense and fit in with other symptoms I was having. I have had three visits with Doug and I no longer take the little purple pill. I am taking some whole food supplements and herbs during the transition, but these are not permanent. My acid reflux is no worse and usually better then when I was on the purple pill, but the rest of my gastrointestinal system is functioning much better. I know because I feel much better after eating and throughout the day. If you are tired of your doctor simply giving you a new pill each time you describe a symptom, I would give Doug a try. I put ""real"" in quotes because in three visits with Doug he has done more to make me feel better mentally and physically then my ""real"" doctor has managed in over 8 years. I think it's important to find a balance that suits you, but acupuncture and Chinese medicine has been around a lot longer than modern medicine, so don't knock it until you try it. I was skeptical at first, but no longer.
