three/four star hotel that claims five? the high end does not do well in atx, and the driskill (despite some claims) is not high end. the entire hotel is uber texas kitschy, and this works perfectly for the bar (which is awesome and well staffed with pro's). however,"turn of the century charm" often means "tiny old room," and if that is what you want, it hits its mark perfectly. with the exception of the bar staff, no one in this hotel is trying very hard... and hasn't for a long time. the quality of hotel and price of room/experience at this hotel are very disparate.
both restaurants are horrible. avoid them.
if you're looking for some ridiculous texasy historic hotel type experience, you've found it. if you're looking for a well run five star hotel, then stay at the four seasons.
