Went there on a Thursday night. Had reservations and was waiting on line to get into the place with my friend. My friend and I were having a quiet conversation while waiting when the so-called Manager approached us and requested proof of age. I'm 47 years old and my friend is a couple of years older than me. How much of an a*hole do you have to be to single out a 47 year man from the line and proof him?
After proofing us, he proceeded to ask us how many drinks we had so far that night. The answer to that question is one drink a piece for the whole night up til then. A*hole then proceeded to proclaim that Comedy Cellar is about comedy and not drinking and that he would only let us into the place if we were cut off. Isn't the whole purpose of a Comedy Club to have a couple of drinks and laugh and relax? We were in no way intoxicated or rowdy. This guy is a total moron.
I'm not sure who this A*hole thinks he is or why he chose to harass us, but I'm sure he is going to cost Comedy Cellar plenty in lost business and bad reputation. My friends and I definitely won't be coming back to that joke of a place thanks to him. I had been a loyal patron of the place, but never again.
While the comedians were very good, there are plenty of better places to spend your money. Places where they appreciate your business and treat you with respect.
