'Annual Exam' scam 7/3/2010

We changed vets a couple of years ago after receiving poor customer service from our last vet. Since Adobe falls alphabetically at the beginning of the list we gave them a try. (That new building should be a major tip-off as to what you can expect your visit to cost.) And let me state that this 'exam' scam appears to be an industry-wide practice which began about 8 to 10 years ago. In the 80s and 90s it was the teeth cleaning scam - but you can't compel people to get their pets teeth cleaned, hence the 'annual exam' scam. Now in order for your pet to receive treatment - to even see a vet - you must pay $50 per pet, per year. You don't pay the fee, your pet won't be treated. This exam consists of nothing more than what you can expect from a scheduled appointment - check the two vitals (heart rate and temperature) and pop open you pet's mouth and exclaim, "Fluffy really needs her teeth cleaned." So what's up with this $50 fee? GREED! In an economy where everyone is feeling the pinch the more
