We went to Gabose this week, after having a fun and delicious Korean BBQ experience in Korea Town, NYC. Though the location is farther west than we normally travel, the food was well worth the trip. \r \r We went with the charcoal grill (built directly into the table) as the host recommended it over the gas grill. The charcoal is a little more expensive for the same items, but we definitely agree with his recommendation! We ordered Kirin (they didn't offer Hite), sake, and japchae (white sweet potato noodles with beef & veggies) for starters. \r \r For dinner, our choice would be the galbi (made from marinated beef short ribs). We were required to order 2 entrees in the charcoal room, so we had the shrimp as well. Korean BBQ is served with banchan, or "tiny dishes of wonderfulness" that are consistently changing, but typically contain staples such as kimchi, pickled veggies, and lettuce, and white rice. At Gabose, we also had mung bean jelly, slaw, and some sort of yummy potatoes. \r \r This is a great place to entertain friends - given they enjoy interactive dinners (aka cooking your own food) with lots of taste experimentation! Also, the staff was delightful - each of the servers that stopped by were super nice, explaining the side items and making great suggestions for our first time visit! more
