I lived in the 200 building for the last 4 years and just moved out this past January for constant maintenance problems. The new owner or president of the association is also the majority owner of condos there and is a slumlord. it takes forever to get someone to come out to fix things and she uses extremely poor companies that i wouldnt trust to ebnter my house. EVERY TIME!!! When I moved out, I gave written as well as verbal (by phone) notice with my October rent and moved out when my lease was up, 3 months later on January 1st. I was never late on rent, in fact I was consistantly early (around the 20th) every month. I cleaned the condo head to toe and even shampooed and vaccumed the carpet. I used spackle to fill the holes in the walls caused by hanging pictures, readying a painter to come and turn the apartment.
For the past 4 months I have been calling her and leaving messages about returning my security deposit. Before I left, the grounds maintenance man even told me not to pay the last months rent because she was notorious for keeping them. I dont operate that way though. I am a fair and honest person unlike my former landlord who wont return my phone calls. I have to sue her now and finding her home address to serve her papers has been a challenge to say the least. She only provides a P.O. Box on your lease. This is a nightmare I wouldnt wish on anyone.
Pros: relatively cheap rent
Cons: maintenance, no security deposit returned
