So after reading bunch of nonsensical reviews praising this joint, I decided to have lunch here with some coworkers. What a disaster- from the beginning to the end. We should have left first second we saw the place completely deserted in what should be the busiest lunch hour (12:30pm). Nobody, I mean nobody in. We sat and wanted to order margaritas (we did go to a Mexican restaurant after all) and the waitress stated she was not permitted to serve them. Only wine and beer. That was weird. Anyway...\r
The lunch menu was short, which in my opinion is a good sign; the chef focuses on a few good dishes. Oh boy, was I wrong. Prices ranged from $15 for ceviche to $19 for chicken enchilada. Each of us (4 people) ordered something different plus we shared guacamole. Each and single dish was a huge disappointment. Starting with guacamole: avocado wasn't ripe and tomato tasted like it was about to rotten- I'm not exaggerating. I got chicken enchilada which looked and tasted like from any Mexican take-out or worse. Filled with rice and dry chicken. \r
And on top of this the waitress brought us bill with gratuity included (20% !!!!). That really pissed me off because I like to decide on my own what I think the service was worth. Apart from the fact that it is illegal. So I asked the waitress to show me the menu where it states that they add gratuity on parties of 4 and more. Instead she suddenly brought us new bill without the service charge. Good, because I was about to call the manager over and show him what I think of their practices. \r
Never ever again would I go there and I will make sure to let all my friends not to waste their time. There are so many authentic, beautiful Mexican restaurants in NYC that it is absolutely crazy to even think about Las Chicas Locas.\r
Pros: no waiting for a table- 0 customers
