Upon entering Carnegie Hall, one should immediately be impressed by the architecture in the lobby. However, this excitement is eclipsed once reaching the performance space. Three U-shaped levels seem to engulf the seating below as they wrap around the auditorium?s interior walls, leaving nary a bad seat in the house. Along with no complaints from a visual standpoint, the hall?s acoustics lived up to their reputation. Most of the shows there are of the classical variety, but even if that is not your musical preference, it is certainly worth trying to find an event there suitable to your tastes.
February 26th, 2010 marked the date of the 20th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall. The event, held to celebrate the Tibetan New Year, began with a group of chanting monks and included some of the top musical acts from today and yesteryears. Highlights included the eclectic Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew, soulful songs from Regina Spektor, the crowd rousing Gogol Bordello, and the always electric Patti Smith. Occurrences from the book of ?Carnegie Hall Rarities? included spitting on stage by Patti Smith and the shirt removing, mosh pit inducing, mikestand slamming performance by the ageless Iggy Pop.
