I went to Beaverton Bakery to taste test for my wedding in about 6 months. I have heard that they are phenomenal and local.
First what I did like, they had a separate attached entrance of the store as a sit down area for Brides to talk to a baker. You could see the kitchen prep area-very clean and organized. You didn't need an appt and the taste test was SO yummy.
That was all. I sat down with a cake decorator who didn't say more than 5 words to us. Someone else came over to ask what samples we would like I gave them a few by name and asked for their pro opinion on flavors in that family-light airy-summery. She came back with a plate of choices. I wish SHE had been the person we sat down with.
This woman was obviously very unhappy to be there, it showed in her face. She didn't ease us into conversation-I mean after all this was my first cake tasting, how did I know what to do! A simple so-what are you looking for? how many people are you serving? What kind of cake shape do you like. Nothing, so after a few seconds of awkward silence I just dove right in with what I had seen in the store. And shes like ok-that was it-ok. One of my jr bridesmaids said she looked a few times when the lady wasn't paying attn and the lady had a big frown on her face!
I am looking elsewhere for a cake, I'll even sacrifice taste a little bit for friendlier service. I'm a first time bride and like many out there don't have a clue as to what I'm doing and need help from the professionals to walk me through the process!
