Fair price on a Lexus 11/16/2010

Before October 20th 2010, I'd never met or spoken with this auto brokers office. I'd driven past it hundreds of times, but was not in the market for a replacement vehicle. I did locate, via the on line Auto Trader, a 2007 Lexus LS 460 that was located at Atlanta Auto Lease. My initial inspection showed the car to be in good condition, I test drove the vehicle, again, very good. I did want to look at some other Lexus 460's and do a little research on the seller. After reviewing a few negative comments posted about the buying experience from other reviewers, I did proceed with caution and completed my due diligence on the history of the car they were selling. First, CarFax and Auto check are a good place to start, however, I would never purchase a car without an independent mechanic and/or body shop review of the car. I dealt with Paul at the dealership, great experience, no high pressure and he made good on each item that we discussed on the car. He stated, ""take the car to have it inspected"", which I did. The car was inspected by a local Lexus dealer, who pulled the history of the car from the Lexus service network, which provided the entire service history of the car. It was the best $126.00 I spent in regards to the transaction. The car checked out fine mechanically. The body shop also inspected for prior collision damage and found no evidence of structural or frame/ unibody repair. There had been some cosmetic paint work done to the front of the car, however, we were able to reach an agreement and adjust the price accordingly. Many cars that are on the road today have had collision repair work done, some of the repair work is excellent and to original equipment manufacturers (OEM) standards, others repairs are incomplete or of poor quality, as the buyer, it's my responsibility to have a professional that represents me to detect any potential past, current or future problems. Know what you want and do your research before you go to the location. Consider the CarFax information, but if you are going to buy the car, spend the money to have it inspected by your own mechanic. This should be written into the purchase agreement when you agree to a deposit to hold the car. If the car checks out, you'll have gone a long ways to protect yourself and eliminate potential problems, BEFORE you close the deal. The salesman and owner, on my deal, made good on everything that was negotiated and agreed upon when we closed the transaction. I would definitely consider another purchase from this dealer when I'm in the market for another Lexus. I've got to check with the MVD about the tag transfer on the car and the same with the title. Hopefully, there will be no delay. Donald Cumming, GA more
