Normally do not write reviews but this experience should be shared. Have worn glasses since I was five years old. I had many questions, did the research, and it led me to Dr. Ashraf at the Atlanta Vision Institute. The website (atlanta2020 dot com) is top notch and will answer many of the questions you have, then a no-cost no-pressure consultation with Dr. Ashraf and his team will take care of the rest. They made sure I knew what to expect every step of the way. It is obvious he cares about the outcome of each patient and I can highly recommend this doctor.
Dr. Ashraf is one of the elite in his field: Impressive resume including Johns Hopkins, tons of experience (35,000 LASIK procedures, extensive research background, numerous articles published, etc), and unlike some doctors he has people skills (he wants you to be well informed and comfortable during the entire process).
If you are worried that you may not qualify the percentage that can be treated successfully has increased quite a bit in the last several years. My prescription prior to surgery was stronger than most: OD was -5.25 -2.25 x 15 and OS was -5.25 -1.50 x 175. Now I see as well as I did with glasses (better than 20/20) and only need glasses to read small print (at 51 years old this was expected). There has been no downside to this decision.
Hope this review helps others who are on the fence. In short if you are considering laser vision correction you have found the doctor that will increase the odds of a successful outcome.
