The fried banana appetizer was really good. The pad Thai was sub-par on two counts: noodles were not fresh, sauce was sickly sweet. I had to request fish sauce for the noodles. I am guessing that nobody orders the pad Thai. Fried rice with beef: beef was boiled or steamed or pre-cooked and added. It should have been fried and seared in the wok! Flavoring was missing the fish sauce and overall Thai flavor I'm expecting. Curry: sauce was too sweet. Fried tofu not available. Tofu was extra. Made with coconut cream and too thick, perhaps an unexpected style. Would have preferred the thinner, milky sauce infused with red chili. The big thing everyone was ordering was the siete mares soup. I think it's a Thai/Chinese take on the Mexican seafood soup. Everyone else in the restaurant was Latino, and everyone was ordering the 7 mares. So, I would recommend getting what they were getting! Don't get anything we ordered, above. Often, when you go to a restaurant, you need to order what they want you to order, not what you want to order. I wanted Thai food. They wanted to sell us seafood soups - just look at the pictures in the menu. It would have been nice if they simply truncated the menu down to 7 mares and a few other things, to give people like me some clue about what to order. Yes, it's not authentic to specialize in a Mexican seafood dish and call it a Thai restaurant - but all restaurants adapt to the local condition. Plenty of ""good"" (or at least popular) Thai restaurants have adapted to American tastes. Same goes for Mexican food, Japanese food, Chinese food, etc. The owners go home and make food that isn't the same as what they sell you. In these scenarios, there is always something good on the menu. You just have to ID it. I'm giving it 2 stars to knock down the old 5 star ratings. The noodle quality was inexcusable. Perhaps something has changed here. It gets a bonus star for not having horrible food. The preparation was actually okay, but the recipes are too sweet for me. I wished I'd driven further north to eat at Yai by the 7-11, which was the original intention. more
