I was scheduled to have my reception here in summer 2009. Well, I was recently added to the growing list of Michigan's unemployed so Burton Manor was no longer an option for us as its already relatively costly (for mediocre food, I might add). Basically by the time I found a less expensive place, I was in BMs 'penalty bracket' - 90-179 days, not only do you NOT get your $500 deposit back but you have to pay THEM 20% of what your total bill was! No place else had this policy, mind you....Anyway, lets just say BM is not willing to work with you on a payment plan. They expect you - even without a job - to come up with the money (in our case, they wanted $1435!! But since we'd already given them $500, they are keeping that & saying we owe them $935!!) in order to "stop the clock" on the penalty increase.
