A Tale of Two Dishes: Disaster and Disgusting 3/5/2009

My fiancee and I traveled to Mount Desert a year ago and stayed in Bar Harbor at the Bar Harbor Club to take in everything that Maine had to offer a couple hipsters from the big city. The second night of our stay our curiosity was piqued by the prospect of an unusual fusion restaurant located in the neighboring village of Southwest Harbor. Having experienced a wide array of dishes from New York we felt compelled to see what Maine's version of fusion entailed. We ignored the humble cosmetics of the structure and proceeded with an indelible curiosity reserved for foodies possessing high expectations of a dive that had collected quite a local following. Small and cramped as it was, we made due with the rude waitstaff that bustled by us and failed to notice my girl as her head collided with a fully loaded tray of dirty dishes! After we were seated and had recovered, I ordered the Thai shrimp curry and my fiancee ordered a Caesar salad for our aps, and for an entree I ordered the Sirloin with bleu cheese and my fiancee chose the Trout with couscous. The Thai shrimp was flat and lacked any interesting qualities besides the poorly executed rice ball that still had finger indents all over it. However, my girl's Caesar salad with anchovies was rather enjoyable with a good, homemade Caesar dressing blend and croutons. To our dining discontent, our waitress disappeared at this point and it wasn't until we flagged down a bus person that we found out the fate of our foodstuffs. Soon after, our ""meals"" were in front of us. My sirloin happened to be underdone and I had to wait further. Medium? That's a tough one? My fiancee's trout was rubbery and overseasoned and the couscous tasted as though it had escaped the clutches of a dirty microwave. In addition, my sweet potato fries were freshly plucked from a bag rather than homemade. We did not bother with dessert. Returning to Filddler's Green? We'll pass and stick to Bar Harbor. Pros: Excellent wine and beer selection, enjoyable barstaff Cons: Food, service more
