Well, my Holiday gift came early and it was opened when I walked in the front door of Gabose. WHOOOHOOO thank you little baby holding chop sticks Jesus for allowing me to eat here:) By far the BEST restaurant experience I have had in a while. I have never had Korean food before and was always curious about trying it. \r \r My server was Fred and he was the best tour guide a fella could have. Not knowing anything about this style of food besides Kimcee, Fred was very patient and explained the different dishes and styles of cooking at your table ( stove top gas or charcoal). Not having time to cook my own food I told Fred what meat I preferred and he happily steered me in the proper direction. \r \r I had the Dak Bulgogi ( sliced chicken breast marinated in a spicy sauce) I have no freaken idea how to pronounce this dish or how to eat it, but what the F*$k as Tom Cruise would say in Risky Business. \r \r Fred brought out 10 dishes total and explained each one to me. My eyes got as big as manhole covers and I thought to myself, let's get it on baby! I tried to be cool and use the metal chop sticks, which I have never seen before, but I couldn't grip them right so I asked for a fork:( So much for being hip. \r \r The chicken came in a round cast iron pan, like a fajita pan and the small side dishes came in round bowls with a metal container of white rice ( see pic). The way Fred described this style of eating was similar to American Southern cooking where you get the main course with sides of mash potatoes, green beans, stuffing etc. I thought that was a cool explanation and I proceed to dive in. \r \r The chicken tasted great. It wasn't all that spicy to me, but I'm used to heat. The little side dishes were the best part. My favorites were the oyster mushrooms (texture was very chewy) , the seaweed noodles (had a wasabi vinegar taste), Napa Valley Cabbage Kimcee, the spicy cucumbers, and the spicy potatoes. Each one of these dishes had different textures and flavors that just blew me away. The best part was as I was finishing these little plates Fred tells me that he will refill them as often as I like at no extra charge. The $15.95 price made sense to me now. I was in heaven. \r \r At the end of the meal Fred brought out a cup of cinnamon tea that he said helps with digestion. It was a chilled tea with two pine nuts floating on top. Nice finish to a fantastic meal. \r \r This place is the real deal especially if you are an adventurous eater who loves great food. I promise you that this restaurant will surprise you as it did me. \r \r As I was walking out I told Fred thank you and added that I we be here once a week after the first of the year. He looked at me and happily laughed. Trust me I will be there once a week:) Remember to tell Fred that Dan sent you and Stay Hungry! more
