My haircut was fine, however, I don't think it was worth $104 (I have straight-wavy long hair, and asked for long layers). I would have chosen a different salon if I had intended to get a $100+ haircut. The Margrith website lists a haircut for women at $55 and up. I've been to other Aveda Concept salons in NYC (e.g. Scott J) and Westchester (e.g. Eclipse), and this seemed in line with prices I've paid in the past ($40ish - $70ish depending on difficulty of hair, seniority of stylist, etc.) at these other Aveda Concepts.\r

When I went to pay at Margrith, I was told it was $104, and when I asked why, I was told that it was because I had gotten a blow-dry. When I replied that I have never had a haircut (except maybe with the lady at the corner salon who charges $10 to take a garden shears to your hair) where the stylist didn't blowdry to see how the cut turned out (and usually cuts a bit more after drying, based on how the dry hair falls), I was told that I should have known because I was asked on the phone and by the stylist if he should blowdry. I was not told that I was being asked about the blowdry because it cost extra. I was also shown the price-list at this point, as an explanation for the $104, where a blow-dry was listed separately; however, most salons have a cut option and a style/blow-dry option (e.g. getting your hair done for an occasion). At no other Aveda concept or other similar caliber salon have I not had my stylist blow-dry my hair as part of the cutting process. How on earth can a stylist do a good job without drying the hair and making sure that it falls correctly? I wouldn't have come to a place that charges $55 for a haircut and then refuses to blow-dry to complete the styling/cutting process. And I certainly wouldn't have come here had I known that a simple cut and blow-dry cost $104.\r

I won't be returning here. The cut was fine, but most definitely not worth that price. \r

And I certainly do not want to patronize a place with misleading and overpriced services. Maybe this actually is a common practice, and I am just naive? All I can compare it to is other places that I've been to, though. Other Aveda Concept salons do not operate this way, and other hair salons that I have been to that are a level or two above the $10/haircut variety do not operate this way either. \r

I do not choose to get my hair cut at pricey salons (which I categorize as $100+ salons), and had I been in the market for a $104 haircut, I would not have chosen Margrith. My hair is simply not complicated enough to need a haircut in the $100-$200 range, and the stylist who cut my hair at Margrith did a decent job, but did not seem any more skilled than those I have encountered in the $45-$60 range at other Aveda Concept salons.
