I rented an apartment from ASB Management/Avi Brender for 2 years in NYC. My roommates and I paid our overpriced rent on time every single month, including our last month of rent. Many people may not pay their last month in fear of not receiving their deposit back but we felt it was best to continue to be good tenants so we paid the last month as well. It turns out we rented from an extremely shady company/landlord who has no regard for others.
It has been over 2 months since we moved out and we haven't seen a dime of our $4,000 deposit after MANY attempts to collect it. We had to resort to contacting the Attorney General & BBB and just got word that ASB would like us to sign a document before they can give us our deposit back. So now we'll be involving lawyers since this is extremely inappropriate.
The deposit is just one of the many problems we encountered from renting with this company. They were unresponsive to important maintenance requests, made promises they never kept, misplaced rent checks, etc.
Even if the apartment seems great, trust me, it's not worth it to rent from Avi Brender and ASB Management. If you do decide to rent from him do not pay your last month's rent...and don't expect anything from him after your sign your lease.
