Feels like Downtown, but in Midtown... 1/22/2009

Normally when i travel to NYC i choose one of the Meat Packing hotels which are closer to my office, but I found a seductive offer on a nice room so it was worth trying it out and it more than paid for cab rides. Had a brilliant stay. The hotel is really near perfect, with downtown cool but in midtown. Rooms are gorgeous and tasteful in subtle tones with a bit of mirror accents (similar to the look in their West Hollywood location). Front desk and concierge are great. Size is intimate, views are good. The gym on the 4th floor is really lovely and has new equipment that made it a pleasure to go down, also lots of TVs on all the cardio gear, with headphones provided. The bar and lounge are cool to hang out, but i have a personal issue with the Gordon Ramsey restaurants because i always leave feeling hungry and poor. The food is stunning but the portions are so small, which is nice as a one off, but a pain if you want a nice hearty breakfast. This should not be a problem as there are lots of options for food - breakfasts on 7th (pain quotidienne is on 58th) and ample dinners on 9th (hell's kitchen). Location can't be beat for Moma (1 block), Central Park, time warner center, new Art & Design Museum, and a 25 min walk to Metropolitan. A direct subway line puts you in Soho in 15 minutes. Really i have to say a great choice for tasting Manhattan while working, i would go back very soon. Pros: Great overall hotel Cons: At the restaurant, tiny tiny portions! more
