Eating there since '81 1/4/2009

I remember a night long ago in 1981 when my parents told me that we were going to an open house at a new Chinese Restaurant called Szechuan. I was seven, and my only experience with Chinese cooking was breaded, deep-fried chicken in a sticky, sweet red sauce that didn't do much for me; or a messy egg-thing that wasn't quite an omelet. But, my parents said I was going, so off I went.\r \r Ever since that night I was addicted to Szechuan Restaurant.\r \r Spicy, diverse, and delicious, everything I ate at that open house in '81 was so good I tried to eat everything on the four or five banquet tables laden with food I couldn't identify, but couldn't wait to try.\r \r I've been coming to Szechuan Restaurant regularly ever since. At first I would go for birthdays and special occasions with my family. Indeed, the question ""Where do you what to go to eat for your birthday,"" was rhetorical in my family. When I got older, I started to go with friends who had the misfortune of never having been there, then with dates, or even by myself whenever I just have to have to have Szechuan. To this day almost 28 years later I still go to Szechuan for their Beef in Spicy Garlic and Ginger Sauce (full strength!), an addiction to which I joyfully succumb whenever I can.\r \r Szechuan Restaurant is the gold standard to which I compare all other Chinese cuisine. I look as far and wide as I can, and I still can't find any better. Pros: Great food, perfect for sharing at dinner. If you like spicy food, you'll love Szechuan. more
