Thank god for Bistro le Cep. I was starting to wonder if I would have to be subjected to eating La Madeleine's 'French' food for the rest of my days in Houston. Bistro is such a nice and cozy restaurant to have some really hearty french food. Although the clientele is overwhelmingly middle aged, making it feel a bit hoity-toity for diners around my age (almost mid-twenties), the food is well worth it. I suggest starting off with the mussels--they are huge and so sweet and fresh! The coq au vin and braised short ribs are the ultimate definition of hearty comfort food there. My boyfriend is always usually impressed with the fish of the day. However, with great food I would have expected great desserts but that was just not the case. The creme brulee is just short of tasting and feeling like frozen custard and the chocolate sauce on poached pears was overwhelmingly bitter. I urge everyone to try the food there though--its a great splurge!
Pros: Great entrees, Yummy pate, Great service
Cons: Desserts, Can be a tad pricey
