Avoid if possible part 1. 4/9/2008

My son's mother and I were at odds against my son having a circumcision. After visiting with Dr. Kolligan initially he recommended the procedure from a false diagnosis of Phimosis. Although there were many other options that were not attempted to correct the problem of tightened foreskin first this was still the diagnosis he held to. I told Dr. Kolligan that I would like to try less aggressive techniques such as a steroid cream or stretching. After giving in the cream was attempted and worked. \r Several months later due to my son's mother not instructing him on proper hygiene the foreskin tightened again. Again I asked for the cream and both the doctor and my son's mother resisted. The second time did not work as the cream was to be applied for several weeks( at least 4), was only applied for two weeks and was not applied while my son was in the care of his mother at all. I had given up at this time and figured although the surgery wasn't medically necessary at the time and definitely not a medical emergency I would go with having the circumcision. I even mentioned to the doctor of a limited dorsal slit with transverse closure. Basically a more conservative procedure used that will keep the foreskin intact. He said they didn't know how to do the procedure. It?s a funny thing, because it costs much less, and is proven to be less traumatic than a circumcision. \r more
