There is nothing like a fresh coffeecake from Kirschbaum's and a hot pot of coffee on a Saturday morning, along with the Chicago Tribune of course. But if I do too many of those, I'll have to start exercising more. So I do try and have some restraint! But their coffeecakes, in many many varieties, are first class. They also have great desserts for that special party. Their bread, on the other hand, is unimpressive compared to artisan bakeries. Perhaps it's the elusive wood burning ovens those higher end places have! But if you're willing to get your bread elsewhere, you'll be thrilled with the coffeecakes and desserts they produce here.
