Look, I live about a block away, and have been to Taiyo many times. The service sometimes is slow. That's because it can get packed. The sushi is not the best in LA as some of these reviewers have mentioned. But, if you can be a big boy, and order all your sushi at once (no sushi bar), then you will be rewarded with decent sushi at a low price. What does decent mean? Well, I've been to the best sushi places here in town and I would give Taiyo a B-. However, two people can have one or two drinks and get stuffed for around $60 - $70 bucks. You aren't getting that anywhere else that I know. Try it out. Make some reservations to the Upright Citizen's Brigade and come in to Taiyo beforehand. It's a fair meal at a fair price.
