i went to Webster Hall for quite a bit many yrs ago . this place went up . then down . & now i hear it is going up again .
ok if you don?t know what that means, keep reading . On the POSITIVE side, ONE: WH is a big place with many rooms. If you don?t like the hip hop room, then to go the house music room, etc. TWO: there is a lot of entertainment shows around if that is your take & likes (strippers, contests, reviews, etc) THREE: most of the old-timers that are still around are very friendly & fun to be around with. FOURTH: the door people are ?generally? nice & efficient.
On the NEGATIVE side: FIRST: the management of WH is not the most talented or loyal to their people. In the past, they have fired the best security team the club has ever seen, fired a great staff of dancers, all for money issues SECOND: the club choice of music is very disappointing, for example, the DJ in the 80?s & 90?s room plays the same music EVERY SINGLE WEEK. If you don?t believe me, go there for few weeks in a row and you will totally agree. Also, they play so much hiphop and reggae music. Whatever happened to house music?? THIRD: the crowd sophistication level has gone tremendously down (umm the word is .. G**tto, lol) . FOURTH: the line outside of WH ?can be? long & the security guards handling those lines are not the most pleasant to deal with.
Generally the place is not bad to be in, especially if you want to be entertained (with shows), you are not a serious dancer or don?t have a specific taste in music.
The reason I said earlier that the place seems to be doing something right recently (& thus going up again in my book) is that I heard that they are bringing some serious talent there like Danny Tenaglia, Chemical Brother, Sasha & Digweed, etc. ? with this kina of DJs . & hopefully straighten up the door securities attitude ? I think WH can rise again
Pros: big place, shows/entertainment
Cons: security are rude, not serious dancing music, crowd level is low, management is bad
