Good doctors but beware of the mystery invoices 3/24/2008

The doctors were great but the way they do their business did not make me comfortable at all. They made me wonder if they were trying to rip me off. They do not tell you what kind of payment to expect in advance, their invoices do not make any sense at all and they pop up at no warning. I went in to get my wisdom teeth removed. When I woke up my wisdom teeth were extracted and they told me they found 2 cysts in my gum so they took them out and send it to the lab for tests. They charged me $900 for the procedure (even though I have insurance) which I thought was strange. I was so sick, I didn't care and I paid and went home, thinking everything is over. Then, I get a $400 dollar bill from the 3rd party lab for the tests they done on my cysts. Then a few weeks later Dr. Carness & Levy's office sent me another bill for $600 for the amount that the insurance company didn't pay. Meaning a total payment of $1500 although I have insurance and another $400 for the 3rd pary lab. I made a complaint as I wasn't told about any of this in advance and that if the insurance company doesn't pay the full amount, it should be between the doctor and the insurance company. After I made a complaint, they dropped the $600 bill which they should have and I'm happy about it but left a horrible impression. more
