Highly disappointed 2/21/2008

I had asked many friends for recomendations and ideas on finding a quality therapist. After just a few sessions, I felt this lady was really bored with my life story. She seems tired. yawned, looked at the clock.\r It is a challenge to find a good therapist who is truly interested in you and your story. I am extremely grateful that I stopped therapy after just a few sessions. I learned that many nearby therapists give FREE inital consultations. I was able to meet with several doctors and other mental health professionals for free! This is a good way to delete people like this lady. A good therapist should know how to listen. She seemed so bored, exhausted, and anxious for my session to be over. Unless you are in a crisis situation, please take your time and intereview all the mental health specialists in your area. Just because a friend is fond of a therapist does not mean you will also get along with them. Again, mental health is a delicate topic. I strongly urge you to interview your therapist. You are a consumer! You are paying for their time! Another tip I learned is that quality mental health professionals will gradually wean you from them. This woman immediately expected me to come back over and over without asking me if I wanted another appointment. Glad I was intelligent enough to leave before I was manipulated into further sessions. I found it helpful to take a trusted friend, neighbor, or relative to my first interview or session. Sometimes a third party may help you pick up on something important. When we seek mental health assistance, we are at are most vulnerable. Some tips from an old pro:\r 1. Interview all possible therapists in your area\r 2,. Beware of those encouraging you to come frequently\r 3. You are paying them for their time...they should not continually yawn, or fall asleep while you are speaking to them\r 4. Trust your gut instincts...if it feels wrong, it probably is wrong\r 5. Take your time.. Pros: tons of available appointments Cons: unprofessional attitude more
