Do not recommend this place at all. My brother was kicked out of the bar for tipping less than 20% on the first round of drinks he bought. Mind you, these were bottled beers! First. Tipping should not be MANDATORY. Second. Good service=good tip and bad service=bad tip. the bartender was RUDE and did NOT even deserve the 10% tip my brother did give him. There was absolutely no justice for being kicked out of a disgusting run down bar because you do not tip 20%. Does not make sense to me at all. The bouncers were VERY rude and screamed at us while we were getting into our cabs after getting kicked out. I warned them I would make it public that I was disappointed in the service we received and the bouncer's only response was that ""they won't be shutting down because they are losing one customer and that he made more money in one night than we did in weeks"". It is ridiculous to treat customers badly because you think their input means nothing... To put it simply, Brother Jimmy's, Gin Mill, and Bourbon Street are much better versions of this college style bar and the staff at these other bars are much more pleasant than the rude, uneducated staff at Jakes.
Pros: located in a good area
Cons: rude staff, dirty bathrooms, too much of a frat boy scene.
