After many failed attempts at lasting sobriety I had given up any hope of ever finding the happiness, joy, or the simple contentedness I saw the world around me enjoying. I had given up on life. I honestly felt that I was destine to die young, miserable and alone. My best friend was in a bottle (liquor or pill), and I didn't care who knew it. I was running a successful business and functioning, but not living. Those around me had given up on me before I had because all that they seemed to see was the failure, one after another. That's how I saw myself, as a failure. I would go away for 30 days think about getting high the whole time. Bottom line for me was that I could talk about my problems until I was blue in the face. Talking was JUST TALKING. One Saturday afternoon, after sleeping off the mornings ""hangover cure"", I heard a commercial for Excel Treatment. I thought it sounded like something different, something that might work. I needed something different. I knew of the importance of nutritional support from other treatment centers that I had gone to, but it's pretty hard to eat right and take supplements when the majority of your calories come from scotch. I called them that day and requested an information packet, just to get an overview of the process.
