Cold, Urban Atmosphere - Doesn't Allow Kids 11/7/2008

Years ago, Cafe Pocca Cosa was on my list of restaurants that I took out-of-town guests to as a representation of uniquely Tucson cuisine and ambiance. The restaurant came to mind again, when I had guests visiting recently. I was told that they had moved to a new location, but was not aware of the drastic changes that had taken place during the move. While the old establishment included a Mexican folk art ambiance that made the dining experience all the more enjoyable; they have replaced the old-world-hispanic charm with cold, contemporary dining. The urban chic setting didn't match my memory of the Mexican food I had eaten in the past. Although we were told that the food is the same, the atmosphere makes everything seem different and less likeable (including the food). In addition, we had children with us. They did not have seating, and the dining, in a sea of adult diners, we very uncomfortable. This restaurant is for couple and group URBAN dining. If you like their food and urban, contemporary decor, which in my opinion is sans charm, then this is your place. As for the rest of us, especially those with families, we will have to go to other restaurants that still have a charming, southwest Tucson flair. more
