My wife and I were delighted to attend last Sunday's Roaring Twenties Review with Richard Halpern at The Cicada Restaurant. It was our third visit. To say the least this was one of the best nights we have had in Los Angeles. We are in our mid 30's, eat out often, and love to dance to vintage music. The crowd is mixed in terms of age and most of the guests dress in clothing from the 20's through the 40's...and it really adds to ambiance. The wait staff is great. We have had several meals there and they have always been great. Figuring no cover charge to hear a band of 5 to sometimes 17 musicans plus vocalists is pretty rare in this town. Unlike other downtown clubs, the room is clean and beautifully appointed. The building itself is the finest example of art deco design in Los Angeles. Mr. Maxwell DeMille is not only a good and gracious host but keeps the show moving along so there is never a dull moment. The attention to detail in the performance, the hiring of a cigarette girl, hat check girl, etc shows that he knows how a supper club should be presented to those of us too young to remember what it was like. The menu offers a lot of choices and we also recommend you visit the internet and go to clubcicada so you can watch last the webcast which clearly shows that the music and the people equal a great time. The age range of the crowd makes it even more fun. We have made some new friends at Cicada and we really appreciate the value of what we get once we are seated. The music is great and we highly recommend Cicada for Sunday nights. By the way, the bartender is great and always makes sure you are satisfied with your drink. We have never attended any night where there were less than at least 100 people in the room, usually more so obviously this is a popular place with people who come from all over the southland to have a fun evening.
