This place is perhaps the ""Chili's"" of asian-esque food - I do not eat here if you are expecting good food... 7/14/2007

7/13/07 We went to Little Tree on a Friday night - and as we expected the restaurant was quite busy. The location seems to be what drives the crowds as it certainly wasn't the food. Little Tree's menu is split into 3 cuisines: Japanese, Thai and Philippino (we did not try any of the Philippino foods). My party ordered some sushi: Saba nigiri, Spicy California roll, Pickle-Radish roll, Spicy Scallop nigiri. We also ordered Tom-Yum soup and these appetizers: Tofu Pad Thai, Gyoza, Thai Spring Rolls, Agedashi-Tofu, and Beef Satay.\r In a nutshell:\r The nigiri was tiny: the smallest I've seen at a sushi restaurant in lower Michigan. The fish wasn't bad tasting but rather flabby/mushy in texture (improperly frozen in transit perhaps?)\r They brought a regular California roll instead of spicy - it was bland and tasteless with tough sugary rice.\r The Spicy Scallop nigiri was tasty.\r The Tom-Yum soup was a travesty: It was Miso soup in which they stirred some thai red curry paste.\r The appetizers were all bad: The Gyoza had a thick doughy/crunchy outter shell with italian-sausage flavored fatty pork on the inside. The satay was expensive and consisted of 2 thin, tough slivers of mummified beef - the peanut sauce was tasty but didn't save the sad dish. The Agedashi Tofu was the worst: tasted of used fry-oil - the batter was thick and oily, the broth tasted like tap water - very disappointing. The Thai Springrolls seems to be covered in deep-fried flour tortilla (was a bizarre wrap - not sure what it was). They were seasoned with what tasted to be southwest seasoning - the filling was mushy and bland. \r Pad Thai was ok - asked for it spicy, it wasn't. Also extremely sugary/cloyingly sweet. Overall OK but not worth the $$.\r \r Our waiter was very nice/capable, we felt bad that he was serving such awful food. The atmosphere was very ""chain restaurant"" - the clients loud and boisterous. Not a pleasant dining experience despite the nice service. \r \r Pros: Nice Servers Cons: Terrible food, vulgar patrons with spots-bar feel, long waits on weekends. more
