I've eaten in a lot of restaurants around the world from The French Laundry to street stalls in third world countries and this was beyond doubt the worst service I've ever experienced in my life. The same can be said by my four dining companions, two of whom are successful restaurateurs. Having to play tug-of-war with our still full plates, bottles and glasses with the twenty busboys (well, it seemed that many) who were sent to clear our table from about five minutes into our meal actually turned out to be the pleasant part of our service. Our waiter made himself unpleasant to the point where he actually stopped serving us when we dared to politely question why a half-full bottle of expensive sake was cleared away. Another waiter took over from that point--his idea of service was to slam down the bill in the middle of our table while the original waiter looked on. We had not yet asked for it. Then, because we were silly enough to think we could finish our drinks before we left, one of the hostesses came over to pointedly pick up each of our glasses and hold them up to the light before putting them back down on the table again. What the point of this exercise was except to annoy us I have no idea. We were astounded at the appalling service (I use the term loosely). The food may have been good but the service was so awful it is all we can remember. You couldn't pay any of us to go there again.
