My boyfriend and I are huge fans of meat (and food in general) so we love a good churrascaria! Our favorite is Green Field in Allston, but we'd heard so much about Midwest Grill and were in the Cambridge area last night, so we figured it would be the perfect opportunity to try something new and get our cold beer and hot meat fix. Instead we ended up leaving feeling ill and disappointed.\r
Things started off prominisingly enough with a friendly waitress directing us first to the buffet, which looked great and actually boasted a much more appetizing selection than the buffet at Green Field. Unfortunately, when one goes to a churrascaria, the strategy is NOT to fill up on the buffet, but to save plenty of room for the nonstop meat parade, but that's where it all fell apart... \r
Given the fact that the servers who come around with the meat look like they would rather be anywhere else, and the fact that it takes a good 5-10 minutes for them to come around with each new offering, you'd think they'd serve you a slice of meat larger than a bite and a half each time.... But since all the meat is dry, chewy, tasteless and overcooked anyway, I'm not sure you would be able to (or want to) stomach more than what they give you in the first place. \r
Following several unsuccessful attempts to find at least one skewer of meat that hadn't been practically turned to leather, we gave up and decided to check out the dessert buffet. A good churrascaria shouldn't even leave room for dessert, but we were desperate to get our money's worth and to get the taste of stale meat out of our mouths. From the less than mouthwatering selection of canned pears and pineapple chunks, mushy-looking watermelon, and two flavors of ice cream (chocolate and strawberry) we each loaded up a giant sized dish of strawberry ice cream, only to take one bite and find that it too was past its prime. \r
At that point we decided to head home and hopefully ward off the bad dairy demons with a dose of pepto bismol...
Pros: good plantains at the buffet
Cons: everything else
