I have to say I was previously a loyal customer of another sushi joint and I?ve been to 15 or so in and around LA. However I've been going to Tama the last few months and it B L O W S everything I?ve had in LA out of the water except for Sushi Gen. I do believe Gen and Tama have similar cuts of fish. Katsu is an incredible chef and a very kind man. I still have not been able to figure out why katsuya down the street is always packed with a line out the door and tama is never that busy. The only thing I can figure is Tama is much more of a traditional Japanese sushi bar where katsuya is more about the rolls. Not that Katsu will give you a hard time if you order a roll, as Katsu says the customer is always right. Outstanding large extremely fresh cuts. I love it when he has live shrimp. Pros: Superbly Fresh Fish great sushi chef Cons: No outdoor patio......... not that they say they have one but it would be nice more
