Nice place, not quite as nice as the last reviewer suggested 12/4/2007

We decided to check out the Alaska Eatery and Glacier Bar, which moved into the old Shelly?s Wood Roast space on 394 near Louisiana. I was impressed but skeptical of the one previous review on City Search. For those that had been to Shelly?s, the space hasn?t been changed, it retains that cozy, hunting lodge feel. We didn?t try any of the appetizers, though the scallops looked excellent. The Caesar Salad was crisp and flavorful with just the right amount of anchovy and fresh shaved parmesan. I had the Ahi Tuna which was very good and prepared to my order (rare). My dining companion had the Walleye sandwich which was pretty standard but served with a flavorful caper/mayo on a toasted bun. The Tuna came with grilled broccoli which was well done and the Walleye came with fries which were seasoned with fresh garlic and very good. The wine list was short but they had some good options at different price points. If there was a scotch list it must only be in the bar because there was no mention of a great scotch selection anywhere in the dining area or on the drinks menu. They have several draft beer selections including local favorites like Summit and Schell?s. Overall, I would not be quite as enthusiastic as the previous reviewer. I would rate Alaska Eatery as a few notches below Oceanaire or McCormick?s and several notches above your typical suburban chain seafood restaurant. If your only seafood experience in Minnesota has been Red Lobster, this is a definite step up in quality and class without a huge increase in price (two entrees, a salad and a couple of drinks was under $70 with tip). If you are comparing it to the Eat Street Titans of Minnesota seafood, the experience isn?t there yet, but it?s a good option without having to go downtown. Pros: Good fresh fish, above average preparation, better than any seafood option in the suburbs Cons: Not on the level of the top seafood places in Minnesota more
