Best Bosnian restaurant in NYC 11/24/2007

After hearing great things about Old Bridge from several friends and reading glowing reviews on Chowhound, my husband and I decided to take a trip from the Upper West Side of Manhattan to Astoria. Our expectations were high--after all, we spent 45 minutes in travel on a cold winter day--but we were not disappointed. The moment we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted by the owners and wonderful smell of grilled meats. Old Bridge is a simple restaurant, with very basic decor and only six or seven tables; it is the food that shines here. The star of their menu is a portion of cevapi (grilled sausages made of minced meat), served with homemade cheese spread (kajmak), peppers and eggplant dip (ajvar), and onions. The meat was so juicy, smoky, tender, and tasty that my mouth still waters as I am thinking about it. The bread, which accompanied the meat, was freshly baked and chewy. And finally, the cheese spread was out of this world. In comparison with other Bosnian restaurants in the city, such as Djerdan and Sarajevo, Old Bridge comes out as a clear winner. We will certainly be back... Pros: outstanding food Cons: very basic decor more
