I have gone to fugakyu for 6 years now, ever since I discovered it my freshman year of college. I take people out there for special dinners and up until this year I have gotten pretty good service. Don't get me wrong - the sushi is just fabulous and the ambience AMAZING. But the service could be better. First off, the people at the front desk have ego's bigger than the size of the restaurant. I made reservations the Friday before Labor Day for Four people for my brother's going away dinner. We unexpectedley had another guest who was coming, so I called about an hour ahead to see if we could change it to five people. They told us to come into the restaurant so they could see what they could do. We arrived half an hour early and were told that since we had five people we would have to wait a whole hour and a half to get a seat. I made reservations specifically so I could avoid the mad rush. I asked him if there was anyway we could just pull up one more chair, we don't mind being cramped but I really wanted to take my brother here. They refused, saying they couldn't change it. So we were about to walk out and suddenly the host changed tune saying, you know I can get you seated in probably 30 minutes. but you will have to come back and check. so we checked in half an hour and he said we had to wait another hour. We left because it was too long. I went back last week with a group of people and it was great. We were seated in a private room, with a nice waitress. The only thing was that she only came in to bring us food or drinks, she never asked how we were doing, and we could never flag her down bc she never came by. For a ""house of exquisite elegance"" you would think that they would do better to standardize their service at the front of the house. I will keep coming though because I love the food and am convinced that the service can only go up from here.
