Please read below if you plan to spend your evening at The Highlands...
a) The Guest List
My friends and I signed up to be on the guest list last Saturday night. Below is exactly what is posted on their website in regards to their guest list:
Q: How much will I have to pay with this guest list?
A: Guest lists are usually free of charge, if the guest list is applicable to any charges those charges will be posted in the event description.
Once we received our guest list tickets we went to the cashier and she said $15 CASH ONLY. We told her that we are on the guest list and it did not say anywhere on their website and the front door that people on the guest list would have to pay a fee. She said that general admission is $25 and the guest list ticket we received were $10 off. As for free, she did not have an answer to that.
b) Parking Validation
None. They do not have parking validation unlike the last time I came here which was about 6 years ago. $10 parking.
c) Security
They took my friend's key hook because they thought he would use it as 'brass knuckles'. Really? If my friend did get into a fight it would take him at least 15 seconds to take it from his belt. Yeah that's a quick and useful weapon. After the club he went to the front to get his key hook and it was gone. They did not know what happened to it. He noticed a lot of items that were taken from other patrons including lots of gum. Really? You can't bring gum inside?
d) Dress Code
This is their policy: Dress code of upscale-casual is strictly enforced, though nice jeans are permissible. However, absolutely no athletic attire is allowed.
I saw gang bangers wearing t-shirts, jeans and dirty tennis shoes in the club. Does this sound upscale-casual to you?
Moving on, my friends and I hung out in the lounge area where the music was pretty good and there were plenty of lounge seats to sit down. Midway through the night around 12:15am the music stops, the lights turn on so they could force everyone to move to the larger dance floor area (since it was pretty empty). Really? That was a major buzz kill. If you don't want anyone to be in the lounge area then don't open it in the first place.
So if you want to go to the Highlands and be on the guest list: $15 cover (cash only), $10 parking, $10 patron shot, $13 gin and tonic (glasses are very small) and taken-and-lost items from the security.
Gee... what a great night!!
Pros: Huge dance floor, nice patio view.
Cons: Get there before 10pm or else.
