If you are looking for good Italian food this is a sure bet. Basso 56 distinguishes itself, however, from the myrid of Italian restaurants in town (not to mention the tourist trap, Patsy's 100 ft away) by creating a friendly and unpretentious environment. The restaurant is undergroud but the light colored walls and open kitchen allows for an open feel. The menu offers more than traditional fair with options such as duck in a balsamic reduction with figs. Only drawback is the concrete interior does not help mute any of the noise in the relatively small space. That being said, the food and the friendly staff outshine the rest.
Pros: great food and friendly staff
Cons: can be noisy
