I had just returned for a visit from living in China and was looking forward to a good Italian meal. I was encouraged that the restaurant had been selected by voters in some pole as Richmonds Best Italian Restaurant. Of course, the Police Academy movies were popular, didnt make em good.\r I was informed that the dishes would be served family style. I was a little reticent to share as I immediately zeroed in on the veal saltimbocca, a huge favorite of mine.\r My sister ordered an Australian red and when tasting thought it was a bit too sharp and vinegary (! Agreed) and ventured that it had turned. The sommelier? insisted that he drinks this Syrah often and it just needs to breathe. He even begged a bit and pronounced it just fine. It did mellow a bit with some air, but I dont believe it was entirely right.\r The salad and bread arrived and were acceptable and then came the big copper pans of the various entrees. The chicken dish was ok and the pasta dishes were acceptable but the saltimbocca, well it was veal, but not saltimbocca.\r Let me explain, ideally the veal should be pounded flat, dusted in lightly seasoned flour, folded over a sage leaf and proscioutto, secured with toothpicks, and sauteed. A sauce should be made from the fond left from the cooking, white wine, and broth. Luna's version was slices of veal that appeared to be cooked in a boring tomato sauce and covered with melted cheese.\r The tiramisu was good enough, but it was likely the highlight. I didnt complain as I wasn't paying, but I wouldnt recommend the place if youre the mood for authentic Italian cuisine. Pros: Desert Cons: Authenticity more
