My daughter and I have been riding at Cartee Equestrian Center for the past 4 years and have had a great experience! Before we even mounted the horse, we were taught how to groom and tack up the animal and reviewed important safety issues. As beginners, we started with private lessons which helped us learn the basics of equitation. As we gained more skill and confidence we moved into group lessons which have been extremely helpful because we observe and learn from others in the class. Lessons focus on hunter/jumper, but basic dressage and flat work are strongly emphasized. A few minutes of each class is spent reviewing basic principles or problems students may be having with respect to the lesson that day. When a particular student and/or horse is having difficulty, the class is stopped for several minutes so Don can focus his attention on that student. This is extremely helpful for the individual, but also for the class as a whole. Our students participate in local and regional shows and are very competitive with other riding schools that include both children and adults. Most importantly, Cartee Equestrian Center is a fun place to ride. The parents and children that ride here are part of one big family and we enjoy our time together. Many of the parents and children volunteer their time at the barn because they love spending time with the animals and want to show their appreciation for Don and Marie's commitment to providing an excellent riding experience. Like many things in life, there is no barn or riding school that does not have an occasional problem. What I have learned to admire and respect about Don and Marie is their openness to suggestion and willingness to rectify any problems that should occur. I now own two horses that board at Cartee, and they have received excellent care. I highly recommend Cartee Equestrian Center for both beginners and advanced riders and for anyone who is looking for a safe and caring barn to board their horse.
