Sardinia in Williamsburg 8/7/2006

This is my favorite restaurant, period. Whenever I go to DOC I have a fantastic time. It's like home away from home. However, it's not for everyone. The menu is limited to very simple Sardinian specialties. They offer about 40 wines, but they're all Italian. You won't find a California pinot among them. But if you want to experience a relaxed, friendly staff serving unusual and rustic regional dishes then this is the place for you. Some of my favorites: the daily pastas are delicious. Try the pistokku bresaola or the anchovy crostini. Very often they have great specials, like the lasagna or the venison pate crostini. And the special cheese course is delicious as well (love that truffle cheese!) Have a glass of cannonau and don't forget the tirimisu, it's the best I've ever had, and I'm not a huge tirimisu fan, either. Basically it's a lot like what I imagine an italian village restaurant must be like, with a few Williamsburg hipsters tossed in. It's best for groups of 6 or fewer, but they can accomodate larger groups (maybe up to 12) at their big table in the back. The whole restaurant is pretty small, but they are planning an expansion in the fall so they should be better at taking groups. Pros: great food, wine and service Cons: the wine is a little pricey by the glass, typical NY prices more
