Not For Everybody... 7/16/2006

I went to Everybody's Garden Center last Saturday as I've driven by many times and never been inside. It seemed like a nice store and I picked up some fertilizer for my garden and a staff member helped pick out some plant food for me (good stuff, but $14.99 a bottle). I was a little hesitant after buying it and decided on Monday to return the bottle and get my money back. When I went up to the counter, the staff did not seem friendly and I was immediately told that they do not give cash refunds and if I wanted store credit, there would be a 15% re-stocking fee. She showed me on my receipt that it said both. I told her that I could EASILY put it back on the shelf myself if she wanted, as I thought a 15% re-stocking fee to place something 20 feet away on an eye-level shelf seemed absurd. She simply said ""That's business."" Bad business, I think. However, it must havebeen my lucky day as she did offer to let me get the full $14.99 value of my return if I bought something right now. After wandering, I found a piece of garden equipment that was marked $12.79, next to similar (but different) items marked $14.99. I grabbed the cheaper and a packet of $2 plant food and wanted to check out. It turns out that all the $12.79 tools were mis-marked (there were at least 20+) and mine was also $14.99. There was no offer to match the stamped price on the tool or cut any slack at all. I returned the plant food and exchanged the goods and left in poor spirits.\r \r Everybody's Garden Center is definitely not for me. Any place that does not offer to exchange un-opened, un-used goods for a customer's money back and charges a 15% re-stocking fee for ALL goods does not deserve Everybody's business. I won't be going back. Pros: Lots of stuff Cons: Exchange policy stinks! more
