Best wine list in Washington Heights, food exceeded my expectations, surprise jazz jam 12/15/2006

I first came in after I looked at their wine list- I'm a wine lover and I can find just the right amount of choices here, for a very good price.I recently moved in from Brooklyn Heights and I'm still reluctant to try food in local places ,it's just hard to find something to meet my taste, but this place looks more like Brooklyn to begin with , so I decided to give it a try with my BF one night and it exceeded my expectations - I tried the snapper with smoked eggplant and chive potato puree and it was fresh and flavorful, and a very inventive combination of flavors. My BFhad butternut sqash ravioli in sage butter and they really were homemade, just as the waiter had claimed. Prices are reasonable and entrees run around $16 , pastas ar around $12 and well worth it ,the portions are large but not huge. They claim to buy local seasonal produce and now (December) feature dishes such as Burger with Jersey Tomatoes and Sauteed Swiss Chard. It's the best place around for a couple's night out or you can hang out on the bar with singles, mostly Columbia medical students that live on Haven Avenue. Pros: really good food and wine list Cons: relaxed service more
