I know LA is saturated with Thai cuisine... in fact you can find a Thai restaurant every half mile. However, that doesnt mean all Thai food is the same. Mae Ploy, for example, is quite possibly my favorite Thai restaurant in LA, definitely my favorite on the East Side. What this little restaurant lacks in size and a singing Thai Elvis, it makes up for in friendliness, good value, and great home cooking taste. Having traveled all through out Thailand, Mae Ploy in my opinion comes the closest to that authentic Thai experience. The food is not fancy, nor is it tamed down for American pallets, rather it is served up real and honest, and savored to the last bite. I love the Mussoman Curry with shrimp, and when I am feeling a little under the weather, the sea food soup (with all of the spices and lemongrass) fixes me right up. So if you want to eat good Thai food like it was cooked in Thailand, try Mae Ploy.
