eat in the bar 10/5/2006

our goal was lobster and lots of it to kick off our week in maine. a local hotelier recommended jonathan's on bourne so off we went. we walked in and were greeted like long lost friends by an attractive mustachioed gentleman, who seemed to be the owner. do yourself a favor and eat in the bar - it's much more intimate than the dining room. starters were a green salad and a stuffed quahog, which was hard to find amongst the cajun sausage and spices. we had two twin lobster special for $19.95, which were good. there was some suspicion that the lobsters might have been precooked and then quickly dunked in boiling water, but we didn't pursue it with the kitchen because we had sunk so deep into our big comfy winged chairs while watching baseball and drinking beer. service was outstanding in the bar and the carrot cake, allegedly made on the premises, would be mouthwatering if it were a bit more moist. basically, the atmosphere and awesome service of the bar area way compensated for any concerns we had about the food. overall for what we spent dollar-wise, i say this is an outstanding value. Pros: service and ambience in the bar area Cons: none really, you get what you pay for. more
