Until this week, 33 was my favorite lounge/club in Boston. I have been there countless times in the last 5 years since I moved to Boston. I have celebrated with table service in the Lounge for two of my birthdays, as well as numerous other special occasions with friends. I have never had reason to complain, but I organized a birthday celebration recently and was APPALLED. I made a reservation for a $250 table in the Lounge with the night club manager, who was very friendly. Our party was promptly seated by the night club manager when we arrived and the service was fine, but at the end of the night, I was presented with a check subtotaled over $350. It was not itemized so I assumed that I had to add tip to my tab. There was no note whatsoever stating that service charge was included already, so I included a 20% tip. After I left that evening, I calculated again the things we ordered and realized it could not have totaled over $350. I called 33 and was told that an 18% service charge is added to all bills for table service in the Lounge. When I spoke to the manager requesting that they remove the additional 20% tip I added to the bill, he was absolutely RUDE. Not only did he refuse to remove the charge, he started our conversation by telling me that he couldn't imagine anyone stupid enough to go to an establishment and accidently overtip. In retrospect, I should have asked for an itemized bill, but the manager's attitude is completely unacceptable. I added tip because I was trying to be a good customer, but instead, had to endure the manager insulting me. This may be a fun place to go, but the owners should really rethink who they employ to interact with their customers.
Pros: nice scene, good music
Cons: terrible service
