i used to equate the prices with the quality of food and service i received at fugakyu, but lately, i dont feel the justification. an unhappy host and a waitress who barely spoke english make for an uncomfortable meal. the manager, joey, is absolutely wonderful. he can give suggestions for the whole meal from appetizers to desserts and can tell you the difference between each fish and the most tasty way to enjoy them. he is friendly and made me feel welcome and at ease while the rest of the waitstaff made me feel as though i had rudely stumbled upon their secret meeting of angry people. the food is still pretty pleasing, but given the whole experience, i'd expect more for my money - especially from the service team. even though it's further away, i recommend blue fin - less pretentious, pretty good japanese food, and definitely better service.
